After a solid nine-year stint in the Gallagher PREM, South African loosehead prop Francois van Wyk is packing his bags for Ireland, having inked a deal with Connacht Rugby. Van Wyk, who leaves Bath Rugby with over 100 caps and a treble-winning season under his belt, is set to bring a wealth of experience to the United Rugby Championship (URC) this summer.

During his impressive tenure at Bath, Van Wyk was pivotal in the club securing the Gallagher Premiership, the EPCR Challenge Cup, and the Premiership Rugby Cup. Before his time at Bath, he racked up significant game time with Leicester and Northampton, where he made over 80 appearances. His seasoned career in the UK has prepared him well for his next chapter in the rugged landscapes of Irish rugby.

"I’m really looking forward to the move to Connacht in the summer,"

said the 34-year-old powerhouse. His enthusiasm for his new team was palpable as he expressed his eagerness to dive into the challenges of a new league and contribute to the success of his new club in the West of Ireland.

Connacht's head coach, Stuart Lancaster, is equally thrilled about the new signing. He believes Van Wyk's arrival will bolster the squad significantly. Lancaster praised the prop's skills and the physical presence he brings to the field, noting his critical role in a highly successful Bath team.

"He’s an excellent scrummager, brings huge physicality whenever he plays, and comes with a wealth of experience at the highest level of Northern Hemisphere rugby."

Van Wyk isn’t the only player on the move; his fellow South African teammate Thomas du Toit will return to the Sharks, and English centre Will Butt is set to join Exeter Chiefs.

As the rugby world watches these transitions, the shifts are sure to inject fresh dynamics into the teams and leagues involved. Connacht Rugby fans, in particular, have reason to look forward to what promises to be an exhilarating season with Van Wyk in the mix.
