So what’s the plan for Ireland?

In the WC we played conservative rugby….kicking for territory and then defending that territory. Defend enough and your scrum picks up a penalty which your kicker turns into three points. And if the opposition turns over the ball, get it to Kolbe or Arendse who can beat defenders in space.

Generally that worked, except against Ireland because Libbok missed 4 out of 5 kicks. Use the same recipe with a better kicker and home advantage and we should beat Ireland.

But is the defense as organized without Nienaber, will Pollard continue to be a dead eye dick and what about the new coaching direction. Will we try to play more rugby?

The team selection suggests this match is being viewed more as an extension of the WC presumably with WC tactics. Will we do the same in the RC, given we haven’t won a proper RC for over 10 years?

It all hinges on the centers and Faf’s marching orders at the outset of the game. Opening up with a big lead would be just another false dawn like Twickenham before the WC. Did Brown agree a game plan with Eluckmiss and will he insist on trying it?

I am keen to see what Brown brings to the backline. It may take a season or so to implement the new style of play.

Sacha is covering flyhalf and centre, so perhaps we could see him combine with Delande in the 2nd half.
Or Pollard could be shifted to twelve, or Sasha could be shifted to 12 in the 2nd half.

It will be a good experience for Sasha to get some game time with Pollard to learn from him.
Pollard may still be the preferred 10 by the next World Cup, with Sasha potentially the backup a long time away.

The Boks now have 2 very good pole kickers in the match-day squad- albeit that Pollard usually always kicks well.

I really hope they have embraced the Input from Brown and show some of that progress buy Running more with ball in hand…don’t think that we can expect leaps and bounds, as he hasn’t been there that long….I still believe that this would be a small advantage for us, as Ireland will be expecting the tight stuff more than then the other….the element of surprise can be good…when Sacha comes on I would suggest him at 12 together with Jessica….he has played 12 for the Stormers on quite a few occasions and were impactful….let’s hope that Faf is at his best and don’t kick to much…..our pack should be dominant and I read, that Tassels is thinking of going with a 7/1 split maybe bringing Roos in?

Faf is under an injury cloud - if he does not play Williams starts with Roos coming onto the bench which is a strange call - 7 / 1 split with Kolbe covering 9

Not convinced by this 7-1 split.

Jul 04, 2024, 21:58

Me neither

Roos is covering 12, so it's not 7-1:angel:

Sacha will still be there and the added bonus of Roos…..would that be so bad?

Jul 04, 2024, 23:34

Yes Draad we have Roos at 12 :)

Jul 04, 2024, 23:43

Oh boy….so it came to pass :P

Delande can also cover flank.

Kwagga for 12

Jul 05, 2024, 08:54

BB

That may work out since Kwagga is not really a success as a forward.

I suggest you relook at the last 10 minutes of the WC final and ask yourself who saved our bacon.

Looks like we will be playing the Irish again in the Puke/ Lime Green suits….saw the Photo shoot on You Tube. We are at home and no green & gold?? Embarrassing.

A bit late but actually their is no PLAN.

Same old routine and hoping for the best with numerous players who should have been retired from international rugby by the powers that be.

Mpower it is traditional for the touring team to wear the regular gear when touring and for the home side to change theirs if the colours are similar.

But have to agree perhaps a different "Watson" color would be more suitable for the occassion.
