Vermeulen is seeing a specialist in Cape Town to check his ankle, but the coaching staff is concerned.
Rassie is suggesting Jasper Weise may play at 8. (but not one of the creatine twins).

Jasper is as strong as an ox. Looks like a more powerful version of CJ Stander.
Good thing he is getting capped by the Boks, so he is no longer eligible for England or the Lions. His skills look solid but perhaps more like a power player.

Marcell Coetzee will probably be called up to replace Vermeulen in the squad.

Not good....Vermeulen is the brains in the Bok pack, just as Etzebeth is the brawn.

And this sounds concerning given how many Covid cases  (John Rahm for example) initially tested negative:

‘Meanwhile, Dobson said that Jantjies had been struggling with a ‘respiratory’ illness before the game, but he was tested for Covid-19 and they  had to risk playing him, as they only had two scrumhalves – including Godlen Masimla – with the squad in Pretoria.

‘He was ill before the game,’ Dobson explained. ‘They tested him before the game, but he was very ill. We just didn’t have another scrumhalf in Pretoria. He’s sick. He went straight off the field and has gone for medical treatment.

‘It was more of a respiratory illness. We weren’t sure during the warm up whether he would make it, but he tried.’

Both Eben and Thor are brains and brawn. They are also the two key leaders. Many a test Kolisi would be standing there, nodding his head, as he watched Eben rally the troops and give the team direction. Thor has serious BMT.
