This November, the iconic Barbarians rugby team is set to dazzle fans with a thrilling face-off against the All Blacks XV at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium. Under the guidance of Pat Lam and John Dobson, a duo renowned for their dynamic coaching styles, this match promises to be an electrifying blend of international flair and groundbreaking rugby.
Pat Lam, the Bristol Bears' director of rugby, and John Dobson, the Stormers' chief, will be at the helm for what is gearing up to be a monumental clash in the world of rugby. Both coaches are celebrated for their innovative approaches and will bring a wealth of experience and a knack for high-tempo play to the Barbarians' squad, which is peppered with internationals and rising stars.
"Pat and John embody everything the Barbarians stand for – innovation, attacking intent, and a passion for bringing players together from around the world,"
noted John Spencer, president of the Barbarian F.C.
Lam, who has a rich history with the Barbarians both as a player and a coach, shared his enthusiasm about returning to the sidelines for the club. "It’s a great honour for me to once again be given the opportunity to be involved with the Barbarians. This is a historic club, and for me the ethos has never changed for the Baa-Baas across the amateur and professional eras of the game," Lam expressed.
He added,
"Every time I am involved with the team, I point to that legendary try against the All Blacks in 1973, because it has everything that great rugby’s about – skill, no fear, superb support play, and keeping the ball alive no matter what."
Dobson, who will be making his coaching debut for the Barbarians, also spoke highly of the opportunity. "It’s a huge honour to be joining the Barbarians for this match against the All Blacks XV. The Baa-baas has always been the zenith of how rugby should be played," he said. Eager to work alongside Lam, Dobson is looking forward to merging their similar mindsets to create a spectacle of rugby that is both entertaining and impactful.
The upcoming match not only marks the Barbarians' first appearance at the Gtech Community Stadium but also sets the stage for a rematch with the All Blacks XV, following their inaugural encounter in 2022. With Lam and Dobson steering the ship, fans can brace themselves for a match replete with ambition, skill, and the promise of rugby played at its exhilarating best.
