Makes sense that your captain is home based and given Kolisi’s age it’s time to phase in a new younger leader - as to who that will be is anyone’s guess

None of the under 30 year old incumbents have lead any of the sides they have been in so who knows

Willemse, Arendse, Moodie, Libbok, Ox, RG etc

Mar 12, 2024, 19:53

For the mean time I can see a guy like eben taking over that department…and then at a later stage a younger Captain.

Mar 12, 2024, 20:11

No point in Eben given his age and Rassie is on record saying the older players need to be gradually phased out.

Rassie will identify one of the youngsters as a leader no doubt

Mar 12, 2024, 20:15

Can you see that happening straight away? I doubt it iwill go that quickly…for the interim .

Mar 13, 2024, 04:57

Eben deserves it most in the short term...in the absence of a clear black leader...but there is Am...surely he's the main contender?...having said that, were really spoiled with strong leadership and xp amongst our senior players...and it looks like a true brotherhood...no p!ssing contests between strong characters.

Mar 13, 2024, 05:34

Marx.

He should have been selected as skipper when Rassie came in.

Mar 13, 2024, 07:10

Nah...good player...one of our best, but I don't see him as a captain...

Mar 13, 2024, 07:49

Marx can be a candidate…don’t know if he has Captained before? It shouldn’t necessarily be a Black Captain or is that a demand put onto Rassie because of transformation? To be honest it’s 30 years down the line how much transformation can still be needed????

Mar 13, 2024, 09:43

Oh, I forgot.

Watch this if you wanna be really angry...

This while many athletes that represent South Africa have to privately fund raise in order to compete.

This country is filled to the brim with scum.

There is nothing left in South Africa that is not tainted by blatant corruption and ineptitude the locals.

Mar 13, 2024, 10:33

Eish that is hectic….Mama Joy is having a lekker time….the whole country is in its chops, and the ANC just keep on spending money like there is no Tomorrow….one thing is for certain they slowly but surely, hanging them selves!

Mar 13, 2024, 11:59

Imagine a sports minister that can look athletes in the eye and tell them there is no money for them while spending millions on his, and his family's, first class travel and accomodation. Living like royalty. How many athletes could you fund with all that money they spend on themselves?

Is there another word for it other than scum?

So it's not surprising that these same scumbags will never remove racial selection policies from sport.

They're leaches, and so are their supporters. Zero ability to create, or even maitain. And the other thing they have zero of is shame. Like none!

A mature presentation raising reasonable questions. The only bright side to this story is that open criticism still exists in this form. In Russia this gentlemen would hear a knock on his door at 3.00 am and not much after that.

Corrupt governments are a threat to progress or  said another way, the fuel of decline as we sadly see in South Africa…once the hope of the continent.

Mar 13, 2024, 19:02

Marx has never lead a side at any level so why would he be a candidate?

Great player but clearly not a leader

Mar 13, 2024, 19:12

The captain has to be black to meet strategic transformation objectives.

AM is the likely candidate for now, but he might not make the next World Cup.

Mar 14, 2024, 04:51

Dassie will come up with colour coordinated co-captains, giving the senior role to his first choice.

Mar 14, 2024, 11:13

“ strategic transformation objectives. “ - sounds militant…what is the end goal here ??

Mar 14, 2024, 13:44

Well folks sorry to burst your bubbles but their is only one man who fills and has all the requirements to be "Kaptein".

He has the qualities of a leader.
He has the skills set required to lead by example.
He has proven beyond doubt his ability to deliver under pressure.
He has time and again shown his ability to snatch victory for the Springboks in the final moments when facing defeat.
He plays for the Stormers.
He is the correct shade as per the governments sport policy.
He is Manie Libbok.

Hoor, Hoor.

Settled no argument.

Mar 14, 2024, 13:56

Yeah, and then some people like Dave think that just because you have never captained a team before, you cannot be a good leader...

What a crock of shit

Mar 14, 2024, 13:58

And he gets subbed at the half just like our current keppie, brilliant Arthur, you nailed it.

Mar 14, 2024, 18:58

Ridiculous...Manie will only start if Pollard is not available or if it's an experimental game...but the Sharks rejects did well for the Stormers over the few seasons...thanks.

Mar 14, 2024, 19:15

Ok dumbfuck DA let’s see how close Marx comes to captaining the side

The only crock of shit is the shit coming out your mouth

Mar 15, 2024, 05:23

I know, DA.

You have to have the captain's armband put on your arm at birth.

I swear Saffex is becoming senile or something.

Anyway, Willemse will likely be the skipper.

...not Am. Am's days are numbered because Moodie is many times better than him.

Mar 15, 2024, 05:45

"Ok dumbfuck DA let’s see how close Marx comes to captaining the side"

"Great player but clearly not a leader"

That's like saying whoever passes the bar exam will automatically become a great lawyer ....

We all know that's not true

Mar 15, 2024, 08:01

Objection!

...hearsay.

Mar 15, 2024, 08:43

Overruled..... the evidence is just too blatantly obvious to ignore

Mar 15, 2024, 08:48

Very, suss-tained :D

Mar 15, 2024, 09:35

LMFAO

Mar 15, 2024, 13:12

Kolisi was never the real captain for me. If you look at past matches and you see Duanne doing all the talking and Kolisi standing with hips on the side. Rassie had to look after him for many years. He only really came into his own in the most recent World Cup, but he had a really strong core leadership team behind him. He was the right captain for SA given the political minefield that SA rugby has to navigate through.

I believe we can have a merit based player that are not limited by race given that we have so many players of colour in the bok setup and the best in their position.

Eben is not a great captain and his winning record is really poor. Even under Rassie, when he was the captain, we lost games.

Rassie will need to build a whole new leadership group from the ground up. He really pushed the old toppies for a long time.

Agree that I don't see any young players putting their hands up.

Do we have a players between 27 to 29 that can make the next World Cup and have longevity. I don't know as I don't see any of them.

Then, the best position to be a captain is normally a hooker or a flanker.

Mar 15, 2024, 13:50

No chaps don’t worry Marx is going to be the captain

Moodie better than Am - fuck off

Mar 15, 2024, 14:12

A Guy like Pieter-Steph and Marx leads by the way they play so they might actually be good Captains…the reason why I mention Pieter as a candidate, because his words in the change Room changed the whole teams vibe and they pulled it thru….but who knows who Rassie will pick.

Mar 15, 2024, 14:20

Oh what utter shit Mpower do you honestly think words at halftime by a player change the way you are playing in a semi final of a WC

Those words literally gee you up for all of about 5 min - once the game restarts those words uttered amount to nothing

What does stick with you is the tactical change and adjustments the coaches mention at halftime

Leading by example captains are flawed - you need a leader that is a true leader, a guy that raises you through words, someone that inspires you - Pienaar, Graeme Smith, Sean Fitzpatrick etc spring to mind. Kolisi, John Smit etc are up there

Mar 15, 2024, 15:07

If you heard what Rassie said, he wants a captain that is local so that he can spend a few days with him to go over the team and tactics. A captain needs to be more than just a player. They are almost the general on the field and need to be able to ensure the team understand what is expected of them and stick to the plan.

They also need to be able to attend press conferences etc. I never like John Smit and thought we had better players than him such as the late Gary Botha and then Bismarck. But he had a good relationship with all the players. I still don't like John Smit but he was the right captain.

As I said, Kolisi grew into the role.

So it will be another case of which player do we think has longevity and can grow into the role.

Of the loose forwards, we have a decent crop, but who would you put your money on or want to build a team around. Etzebeth, PSDT etc are all getting long in the tooth.

I would give Kolisi another year and then look to ring in another captain for the end of year tour with the eye on 2025 as the final hand over.

Marx is a fantastic player but a bit of an alcoholic, so his off field antics won't help him

Mar 15, 2024, 15:54

Bismark was better than Smit but Gary Botha certainly was not

I liked Smit - good player great leader. The only fuck up was some stupid coach moving him to tighthead

Of the current younger players in the mix none stand out as leaders except for Moerat but he is not going to be forcing Eben out in a hurry. The other is Thomas du Toit.

So we have Willemse, Arendse, Moodie, Libbok, Williams, Hendrikse, Oz, Steenkamp, RG, Wiese and Roos as the younger players in the mix - none of these have a history of leadership roles so it’s going to be interesting to see who Rassie goes with.

I get that the candidate should be home based so the choice in reality is Bongi, Am or Eben - Bongi is the oldest so no point in him really as no doubt he is on the list to be phased out.

So it’s Am or Eben I reckon with Am holding the edge given his colour

Mar 16, 2024, 05:39

Pollard will be the best candidate in the current group,

Mar 16, 2024, 07:21

Captain needs to play in SA ..................... ffs. get a grip.

Mar 16, 2024, 08:10

:D...maak allie Bulle Bokke!!!:ninja:

Mar 16, 2024, 13:40

Dud Allende for captain. The strong, silent type.

Mar 16, 2024, 14:02

Great call Moz

Mar 17, 2024, 04:37

Glad to see Rassie wanting to move on from Kolisi.....three and a half years to the RWC isn't a lot of time in which to prepare. I'd go with Eben in the short term and ease the selected vice captain into the slot. Kolisi carried the political vote but that said there's been worse captains in the past....Andre Vos springs to mind let alone Corne Krige.
