I think that Erasmus regarded the Portugal Test as a training one on which he would not expose his key players to potenila injury. I think that he was trying out the key youngsters test player exposure, while having a look at failure in chief Esterhuizen.
He wanted see how the youngsters play ball in hand rugby and Esterhuizen helped to undermine that effort. On the whole it identified a few players as future starting choices like Snyman at lock and there are a few loosies looking good as well.
