On a day more suited for the history books than a rugby pitch, the Vodacom Bulls didn't just defeat the Sharks; they obliterated them with a colossal 64-0 victory at Loftus Versfeld. Saturday's clash wasn't just a match—it was a statement, propelling coach Phiwe Nomlomo’s squad to the top of the Currie Cup standings and leaving the defending champion Sharks in the dust at rock bottom.

The Bulls wasted no time, charging to a 14-0 lead within the first 10 minutes with tries from hooker Juann Else and loosehead prop Dylan Smith, both bulldozing their way over from lineout mauls. Despite the Sharks' efforts to shore up their defense, the Bulls' center Chris Smit soon after added insult to injury by scoring twice in quick succession.

By halftime, the scoreboard was a glaring 35-0, courtesy of Else’s second maul masterpiece and Boeta Chamberlain’s flawless boot. The crowd at Loftus could barely believe the spectacle, and apparently, neither could the Sharks, who seemed to be caught in the horns of a relentless Bulls stampede.

"We knew we needed to make a statement today, and the boys did just that,"

coach Nomlomo remarked after the game.

"Every player stood up, and I couldn't be prouder."

The massacre continued in the second half. Jeandre Rudolph blasted through the Sharks’ line right after the break, and winger Stravino Jacobs turned on the jets for a 50-meter dash to the try line, further asserting Bulls' dominance. Rudolph’s second try then pushed the score past the half-century mark.

Replacement Cornel Smit wasn’t about to be left out of the try-scoring bonanza, adding the ninth, and just when it looked like the Bulls might push for 80, the Sharks finally stiffened their resolve. It was too little too late, though, as debutant JJ Theron closed the day with the Bulls' tenth try.

Looking ahead, the Sharks have a mountain to climb with an upcoming fixture against the Cheetahs, while the Bulls look to continue their rampaging form against the Pumas. For the Sharks, the road to redemption is steep and fraught with peril, and for the Bulls, the summit of the log beckons with a siren's call.

As the Loftus faithful streamed out, buzzing with the thrill of the slaughter they'd just witnessed, the scoreboard stood as a stark reminder of the gulf between the top of the log and the bottom. The Bulls roared mightily in Pretoria, and the Sharks? Well, they were just there.
