Watching the likes of Fikayo Tomori continue to shine since arriving from Chelsea back in June 2021, there have been an abundance of English stars who have excelled in Serie A.

With a list that includes the likes of England internationals Chris Smalling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek enjoying a real career resurge since arriving in Italy, it appears that a number of Serie A giants are eyeing up another English swoop during January’s transfer window.

With the Serie A title race really set to heat up in 2024, we have taken a look at a trio of English stars that could be the next batch heading over to Italy’s elite this month.

Kalvin Phillips – Manchester City

Although Manchester City might have spent £45million back in the summer of 2022 as they welcomed Kalvin Phillips to the Etihad, the England international has drastically struggled to find any kind of stability.

With there growing speculation that Phillips could be replaced in Gareth Southgate’s EURO 24 squad if he doesn’t not secure regular first-team action, Pep Guardiola has made it clear that the former Leeds star will be allowed to leave on either a loan or permanent basis this month.

Yet to make a single Premier League start this season and clearly no part of Guardiola’s plans across any front this season, the 28-year-old appears to have accepted that he is in desperate need of kickstarting his career away from the Etihad.

Forced to watch on from the sidelines last season as Manchester City became the first English club since 1999 to be crowned treble champions, Phillips still has plenty of European heavyweights that are closely monitoring his situation.

Despite reported interest from French icons PSG and top-four chasers Newcastle, Juventus still appear to be sat in pole position and believe that they can strike an initial loan switch for the 31-cap international.

Trevor Chalobah – Chelsea

Although there might be continued speculation that Conor Gallagher could be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit this month, it appears that another of Chelsea’s homegrown stars will be on his way out of west London during January’s transfer window.

While Trevoh Chalobah might have eventually stayed put with the former Premier League champions over the summer, it is no secret that Mauricio Pochettino is hoping to get the 24-year-old off of his wage bill this month.

Sustaining a long-term hamstring injury while away with Chelsea on their pre-season tour of the United States, Chalobah is yet to make a single appearance across any competition since opening up the 2023/24 campaign.

With Pochettino reportedly making it clear to Chelsea’s academy graduate that he will not be part of the Blues’ first-team squad going forward, there has been reports that Italian giants Roma are keen on snapping up a cut-price deal this month.

Watching Romelu Lukaku make an immediate impact at the Stadio Olimpico since securing a season-long loan switch from Stamford Bridge over the summer, ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho remains a huge admirer of Chalobah.

Jordan James – Atalanta

Shockingly parting ways with Wayne Rooney earlier in the week after just 15 games in charge, Birmingham find themselves at the heart of a major Championship struggle this season.

Continuing to slide down the second-tier and now needing a minor miracle in their bid to challenge the play-off chase, fans around St. Andrew’s have had little to cheer about over the past few months.

However, although midfield talisman Jordan James might have once again gained a string of plaudits this season, the highly regarded 19-year-old could be inching towards a blockbuster Serie A switch during January’s transfer window.

Already notching five Championship strikes this season, Atalanta are set to make an opening offer in the region of £3million and they are growing in confidence that they can exploit Birmingham’s recent issues.

With it suggested that the Blues’ homegrown starlet is keen on securing a move to Bergamo this month, the Wales international could be set to join former Leicester and Fulham ace Adama Lookman at the Gewiss Stadium.
