Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly close to finding common ground regarding the transfer of Kai Havertz from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates. The size of the fee is believed already to be agreed, with only the finer points – the structure of the deal, that is – left to be sorted.

Should this deal go through, and it appears almost done, the Gunners will be getting a significant boost for their attacking ranks, in a player capable of doing a good job in any role close to the opposition goal, at the age of 24.

Following up on the Chelsea squad-clearance sale, Manchester City have reportedly reached a full agreement over the proposed transfer of Mateo Kovacic.

The 29-year-old Croatia international is expected to undergo a medical with the 2022/23 treble winners imminently, and his arrival to the Etihad appears to cast doubts over the future of City’s out-of-contract captain Ilkay Gundogan, and potentially Bernardo Silva.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Toni Kroos has signed a new contract, set to keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu for another 12 months.

Though still only 33, Kroos spoke about the possibility of retiring from playing professionally at the end of 2022/23 if he was to leave Madrid, not wanting to play for any other club. Fortunately for the true lovers of the game not to mention Real supporters, the midfield maestro won’t be leaving the stage just yet.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Toni Kroos have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which will see him contracted to the club until 30 June 2024,” the official statement reads.

“Toni Kroos joined Real Madrid in 2014 and is the German player to have worn the club’s jersey the most times, having made 417 appearances.

“Over his nine seasons as a Real Madrid player, he has won 20 trophies: 4 Champions League, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 3 LaLiga titles, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups.”

Phillips determined to fight to Man City place

Manchester City’s acquisition of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United last summer for a reported fee of around £45 million can’t exactly be described as a successful one, given that the 27-year-old midfielder had injuries to cope with early on in the season and wasn’t able to establish himself as a regular, dependable member of Pep Guardiola’s team.

It’s not to be wondered at that Phillips has been linked with departure from the 2022/23 treble winners, but for himself, he is keen to forget about everything bad and fight hard for his place at the Etihad.

Paris Saint-Germain are set to appoint Luis Enrique as their new head coach, according to multiple sources.

Officially, PSG’s head coach is still Christophe Galtier, whose contract does not expire before the summer of 2024, but it appears the club have decided to replace him with Enrique.

Enrique worked with Neymar for three years at Barcelona, and the Brazilian star, who was supposed to be sold this summer, is reportedly set to be reinstated as the club’s leading star. Lionel Messi has already gone, and Kylian Mbappe appears likely to leave as well.
