Liverpool and Curtis Jones are close to successfully completing the negotiations over a new contract for the 21-year-old midfielder, according to multiple reasonably reliable sources.

Jones has so far had a difficult season, along with the rest of his team, with injuries forcing him to miss a total of 13 games in all competitions this term, four more than he’s managed to appear in so far. Nonetheless, manager Jurgen Klopp obviously has faith that the academy graduate will reach the right level to be a valuable asset over the coming years.

Meanwhile, the Merseyside club is also in talks with Roberto Firmino, whose current deal expires at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old forward has been one of the few Liverpool players to perform at a consistently high level this term, with nine goals and four assists in 21 appearances in all competitions. His contribution in everything Liverpool have achieved under Jurgen Klopp is immeasurable.

Firmino, who has surprisingly been left out of the Brazil squad for the World Cup in Qatar, has recently been linked with Juventus.
