Arsenal fans would’ve been anxious heading into their clash with Crystal Palace on Friday night but in the end, the Gunners were left celebrating as they overcame adversity to push past the Eagles and secure a nice 2-0 win to kickstart the Premier League campaign.

Gabriel Martinelli and an own goal from Marc Guehi got the job done and today, we’re going to comb through a few things we came to learn in the capital.

Impressive new boys

Zinchenko and Jesus were considered to be important signings for the Gunners and it’s not exactly hard to see why given their pedigree of where they’ve come from with Manchester City. On Friday, they proved why they’re going to be so valuable for Mikel Arteta as both men put in incredible shifts, and their winning mentality should prove to be crucial for the advanced development of the first team squad.

Palace show heart

Crystal Palace playing at home is always going to lead to an uncomfortable evening for whoever they’re playing against and that’s precisely what transpired here. The fans were on top of Arsenal all game long, they were coming forward with real intent, and they rarely let their foot off of the gas. This was a showing that may not have led to any points being accumulated, but Patrick Vieira should still feel a sense of pride.

Arsenal’s maturity

In response to the aforementioned pressure, it would’ve been easy for many to think that Arsenal were going to fade into obscurity and crumble under the weight of Palace coming at them – but that didn’t happen. They were assured of themselves and with someone like Saliba coming into his own in the back four, there are plenty of reasons to believe that this could be the start of a brand new era for the sleeping giant.
