What a disaster with the bat from NZ.
Good for the SA ladies.
Shocked to see the result.
Well I was wrong and you hit it correctly once more Denny.
I haven't watched a replay of the whole game but I did manage to watch the Protea innings. Games are broadcast at ungodly hours
A couple of notables.....thought Laura is seriously out of form she's just not her normal positive self, looked a bit tentative to me she needs to get her mojo back quick-smart if the Proteas are to stand a chance of winning the championship. Tazmin who went for (1) suffered a bad luck LBW decision and Marizanne was dismissed after an unthinkable run-out....not good coming from the Captain. Chloe who was signed up at the WIPL for USD$183,000 is a useful and solid lower order bat and so is Nadine De Klerk. They did a great job under pressure to rescue the innings. Delmi Tucker does not inspire and perhaps I'm making a premature call but I think she's out of her depth at this level....time will tell.
After a nervous start in their first match the win against NZ is just what the doctor ordered and with a much needed win under their belt the team is now brimming with confidence which was sadly lacking in their previous match against Sri Lanka. The top order has it in them to score big so let's hope for a more clinical and incisive approach to their next match. Go Laura!
On paper it's impossible to imagine Oz not winning this WC but then no WC has been won on paper.
Watched the Aussie game this morning and enjoyed the game.
Agree early days yet but the top two are England and Australia.
The SA team had a good day but a silly run out and a few weak shots have to be addressed.
But a terrible day for NZ considering the talent that is available in their squad.
The girls luck held.
Apparently there is no women's domestic
provincial competition in South Africa, I'm not sure if they even have a club one so unlike England and Oz our dears are well and truly disadvantaged when they step onto the international stage.
Well today the ladies are going to have their hands full playing Australia.
But win or lose trust someone at least makes good.
Hoping.
The Proteas were better in the power play department but our top order with one exception failed to lay the foundation of the innings. Our batting has to play to its potential if we're to give ourselves a chance of beating Oz and England. Laura against Oz was clubbing the ball instead of relying on stroke play and timing. The attack is not too bad with the exception of Chloe Tryon.
I wouldn't right off our women just yet but to win against Oz and England they will need to win it with their batting and an
element of luck.
Well I must concede that the ladies did better than I expected.
But as you say Denny they are going to need a TON OF LUCK.
So Aus through to the final...
Tough one for us today against England
It has been said that Cricket
....is a funny game.Go Laura, Tazmin, Sune and Marizanne!
Nadine to add the finishing touches.
Shabnim and Avabonga to grab early wickets.
Go you goooood things!
164-4....so far so good...well done ladies...not too shabby at all!!!
England 53-0 after 5...10.6 to the over...we need wickets!
lekke LEKKA!!! INTO THE FINALS!!!
Oops....
Well I must admit that I am one of the most surprised followers of the SA team.
What an exciting end to the game.
After the first four overs with England at the crease I thought it was over for the SA Ladies.
But fight on they did with a thrilling win over a really arrogant Blunt and the English team.
Sure hope that the SA team can produce yet one more win at home against the Aussies.
Well done ladies now bring home the WC.
"surprised" AJ.....pourquoi? It's cricket ol chap
Think our women are still to play their best game and that score would not have won against Oz. We'll obviously take the win but the batting needs to step up again if they're to beat Oz. There were 17 dot balls in the powerplay hence the reason they were extremely lucky to win. The good thing to come out of the game is that our top 5 batters have struck form and that there's still room for improvement. The order should be slightly adjusted so that Sune and Nadine bat at 5 and 6 and Chloe at 7.
On the downside.....
Lack of a top class spin bowler......there's not much choice between Chloe and Mlaba but I'd go with Chloe.
The fumbling wickie does not inspire, she is ordinary.
Bowling wise, Shabnim Ismail is a fearsome competitor and a game changer, Ayabonga, slow and straight on a good length is the baby face assassin, no surprise to see her taking 4 wickets
Marizanne....we need her to step up big time with a few wickets, batting is fine but she can do a lot better by bowling a good line.
Winning score to beat Oz......180+
Go you goooood things!
Was watching the game live and must have been due to a Escom power shut off could not get back on the SA link.
Eventually found it on an English sport channel but by then the damage was almost done to the SA batting effort.
Some poor bowling from the SA team (in the spell after the first over) allowed the Aussies to settle in and push the scoring rate which was always going to be a problem for the SA ladies.
But eventually the SA sides "luck" ran out.
Unfortunately.
But to their credit they did make it to the final.
tough luck Congrats to the Sheilas.

Yet another collapse from the Ladies in the WWC.
Cannot see them winning any games but the last match against Bangladesh perhaps in Cape Town on the 21st.
NZ next and then Australia.
What happened to that wickey that they had?
This WC is pathetic.
