Let me try and explain something else - Boucher seems to have a mania about experience and unless a younger player was already in the Proteas nobody under 28 could get into the team and when replacements had to be made it looked like only players older than 30 could be considered, This was despite the fact that the players Boucher selected to play were not even on provincial level performed well - as an example on Provincial level Elgar was twelve when it came to scoring of runs in 4 day games and the new players he brought in was even lower than Elgar when it came to scoring of runs.
So why was selection of the Proteas a total disaster over the last two years which reduced the team to joke level in ranking and became a joke in international cricket,
The following article may provide the answer to the above:-
I am not a great believer in conspiracy theories. I generally like to live my life based on facts.
Malan, Verreynne, Linde and Burger are all Prince's products. Let's hope that the national team's progression is not being put at a risk due to petty provincialism. "
I do not think that the above is the only reason why Verreynne is not considered to play for the Proteas and Lubbe is may be even more petty than portrayed above. I have a feeling that Boucher does not want to see Verreynne be used on international level because he is a much better barsman and wicketkeeper than Klaasn is and that could lead to stronger public demand that Klaasen be replaced in the ODI team. Boucher made the stupid decision to make Elgar the captain in respect of tests despite the fact that Elgar is not the best batsman around and already near to 34 years old and there is no future in keeping him in the team past his sell-by date - which is a definite within the enext year -if not already reached,
In any event unless players performances are the basis for team selection - which is not the case at present - more and more losses are inevitable.
