Today is the start of the next 4 day games in SA

Mar 16, 2021, 07:03

In the games played last week -

*    Verreinne, Markram, Rickelton and Van Tonder  put in quality batting performances, while most of the other national players were substandard,

*     amongst the three games played two were drawn and only the Dolphins beat the Highveld Lions,

The games starting today are  between -

*     the Cape Cobras vs the Knights;

*     the Warriors and the Dolphins; and

*     the Highveld Lions and the  Titans.

Once again we have a chance to see how  the players perform in the series.

Mar 16, 2021, 15:27

van Tonder made 47 but why the hell is he batting at 7

Rickelton only got 14

Ethan Bosch bowled well

Mar 16, 2021, 16:40

Van Tonder batted at 3 - bur when all the others went out quickly they moved his name doiwn to 7.

As to the following Lions batsmen - they all failed:-

Reeza Hendricks, Van der Dussen and Bavuma and badly so,

I saw that in the series thus far Markram was the top batsman, followed by Van Tonder and Verreinne.   Elgar came in 9th with an average of  29,37.   Is that good enough?    Elgar is out for 2 runs after facing 17 balls.

Mar 17, 2021, 20:48

I see Markram and Verreynne have made runs again

Mar 17, 2021, 21:47

Sure Markram again showed his class again and is already in the Proteas team so no comments on him.   How they can keep players like Verreynne and Van Tonder out of the team and retained  Van der Dussen and Bavuma in the team is a miracle  only the selectors and Smith and Boucher must explain.

Also appointing Elgar as captain is another issue that needs explaining,   The dumbest decision ever by the SAC circus.     .     .         .

Mar 17, 2021, 23:42

Yep those 3 should not be in the side

v Tonder and Verreynne should be

Along with another two young bats

Mar 18, 2021, 08:25

I doubt whether the idiots would pick Verreynne ahead of  Van der Dussen in the test side.   I think that Van Tonder will be the replacement for Du Plessis anyway,

As for Elgar - after his 2 runs yesterday his average in the series is down to 27,73 runs per innings in the series and is bound to go down further in the second innings in the game.

Mar 18, 2021, 15:56

So in two innings in the game the Great according to SAC ands nobody else Bavuma made 14 ruins and the  useless Van der Dussen made  16 runs,   Will Elgar equal those two with a mere 2 runs in the first innings?

Mar 18, 2021, 20:13

Why is Janneman Malan not playing in any of these domestic four day games?

Seems strange that Roelofsen is not in any of the sides either

Mar 19, 2021, 08:02

The quota norms keep them, from playing.

Mar 21, 2021, 09:01

It's not that hard to put together a younger promising team, one with the future in mind and one given time would be competitive but for some strange reason CSA has totally lost it.....once again.

Seems like the selectors enjoy impaling the team long before the start of the game.

Mar 21, 2021, 11:32

If Smith and Boucher  have any guts to standup to the selectors and say they would quit if the selections are not on merit then they would serve the interests of cricket in SA,    What is happening at present is also a reflection on them and put them in a poor light.    Seems they are too cowardly and gutless to take any determined action against the fools in SAC,

Mar 21, 2021, 11:43

Read a very interesting article on Facebook on how black batsmen are just not coming through in SA cricket

After this current 4 day domestic competition only one black batsmen is in the top 20, that being Dala at 16

The article then goes on to show the stats over the past few seasons

Bavuma is literally the only one that has made it on the strength of potential as his stats hardly merited it

There does not seem to be an explanation as to the why

Mar 21, 2021, 12:35

I've offered an explanation previously, Saffex.

Not sure if you read it ;)

I'll paste it here...

"I think that rugby and bowling in cricket are, in some senses, more reliant on speed, stamina and physical ability while batting is more of a mental art. Of the two popular sports, I'd say tennis and cricket, particularly batting, are the most deeply reliant on wide muscle memory pools. Too wide to be picked up sufficiently for a professional standard after 16-17 years of age.

The guys don't see cricket in primary school, then get to high school and perhaps take up the game in Grade 9 or 10. That's well behind the mark compared to the standard of the kids that played cricket for most of primary school. And it's not an issue that you can force. You simply have to make cricket available to black kids in primary schools across SA.

Failing that, you cannot expect the late starters to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers - certainly from a batting perspective.

It's unfair and toxic to everyone involved."

Mar 21, 2021, 14:01

Yeah they mentioned that batting gear is expensive so maybe many black kids can’t afford the kit but that does not explain all the black kids that now go to the traditionally whites only schools all over the country

My old school is for instance probably 70% black these days and that includes from age 5, so counters your take on black kids only staring to play aged 15 etc.

Given the WI cricket side produces amazing bats so skin colour should not be the issue

Mar 21, 2021, 14:36

I can tell you that in the kids cricket I watch, I just don't see young black batters that often. Bowlers = many.

I do not buy that that parents don't have the funds. R800 is enough to buy a primary school kid's kit. And I see people walking around with shoes that are more expensive than that more often than not.

If it's a case of not having access to equipment I'd say the culprit is more than likely an unwillingness to invest rather than an inability to do so.

Between the parents and the government, there is ample money to buy equipment. They could probably haggle a deal where they'd pay R600 for a kit(bat, pads, gloves, box, helmet).

Mar 21, 2021, 20:35

Yeah I don’t buy that shit either

I mentioned a mate of mine’s son who represented WP at all levels as a seam bowler until the quota got out of hand

Only 4 white guys allowed in the WP age group side and all 4 whites selected were bats so he no longer made the side

It’s beyond disgusting

The result is that his son wants to come over here when he has finished school. One year to go. So sad

Why the fuck are we seeing quotas 25+ years on

Mar 22, 2021, 09:38

Stepping aside from the political selections of which I've been a strong critic I've tried to point out that the squad is super crap. Whoever is responsible for choosing the squads is clueless.

Jon Jon Smuts, Heinrich Klaasen, van de Dussen and perhaps one other non colour player are equally as useless as the quota selections.

Mar 22, 2021, 10:01

As someone that is not, or should I say, "was not" racist - How am I supposed to respect a party/race that discriminates against children and believes it's completely justified in doing so?

The truth is that only a bottom feeding and inadequate group of people with no sense or morality would do this.

The way that blacks saw whites as complicit during apartheid is exactly how I have begun to see blacks now.

They're bloody 90% of the population but cannot create their own opportunity. Instead it's easier to take opportunity away from others, even if they're children.

Per capita they are far and away the most guilty of murder, rape and other violent crime throughout the world, from the 1st to the 3rd world and that has fuck all to do with apartheid and everything to do with their race and bad choices that individuals within it make.

And that's the real reason why it's fine with them to discriminate against white children purely on the basis of their skin color.

PS Donating money to an orphanage that is predominantly white, due to geographic location, does not contribute to a company's BEE rating. If the orphanage is black...then it does. Yes, not even white orphans are safe or left alone. They are actively discriminated against.

Mar 22, 2021, 13:54

Yeah it’s utterly bullshit that plus 25 years on from freedom for all where a whole generation of black kids have been on an equal footing as white kids in terms of sporting and education opportunities, that a quota system is still in place.

What makes it so much worse is that it’s not a small quota number we are speaking about here. Only 4 whites per provincial side at school level - fuck me that is disgusting

It’s for these reasons alone, aside from all the others, that I could NEVER live in SA again

Mar 22, 2021, 14:01

I hear you Denny - there are some super shit white players, with one of my school old boys in JJ Smuts being top of that list

Don’t agree with Klaasen as he has had some really good short version of the game moments but seems to have fallen completely off the boat.

But these selections are purely down to pathetic calls made by our selectors as there are clearly better young white players playing domestic cricket that are not being selected

SA cricket is at an all time low - we have shocking selectors, a coach who seems out of his depth and a domestic game lacking a quality standard thanks to some shockingly poor standard players on board

Why the fuck a strong personality like Smith is unable to make an impression is beyond me. My guess is that his hands are politically tied.

There is light however as we have enough young talent out there to make up a competitive international side, we just need those ignorant, incompetent selectors to select them

Mar 22, 2021, 14:53

It's bloody shameless.

And do you think it will abate in the next 25 years?

Of course, it won't.

Mar 22, 2021, 16:34

Nope no chance in hell, it’s getting worse and worse

Mar 23, 2021, 01:37

"SA cricket is at an all time low - we have shocking selectors, a coach who seems out of his depth and a domestic game lacking a quality standard thanks to some shockingly poor standard players on board"

Pretty much says it all. Hope alone is not going to win you a trophy and hope went out the window the day mediocrity became the benchmark.

Mar 23, 2021, 02:24

It’s so disappointing that Smith and Boucher have not put their mark on our cricket

Clearly their hands are tied for one has to believe that if two strong characters like that cannot effect change then no one will be able to

The agenda at play is clearly not cricket

Why can our rugby get it right but our cricket not?

Mar 23, 2021, 13:53

As a player and captain, Smith was one of our best. Probably the best skipper we've ever had.

However, according to his ex-wife's family, he is an attention whore.

Wouldn't put it past Smith to sell out the game if it means he'll remain in the top job. As it stands, he already bent over backwards to support BLM, and don't tell me he doesn't know what that group of commies is about and who they are funded by. And if he didn't know, then a responsible person in his position has a duty to find out before throwing his weight behind it.

Like many Springboks did when they refused to kneel for the black commie organisation. Remember how they got slated and called racists...even though they were wearing "anti-racism" t-shirts at the time. It wasn't enough to support anti-racism. No no no...kneel for the commies or you are racist and the government will investigate you.

Here's an article, in case you forgot. The government actually demanded answers as to why guys that brought them a world cup did not kneel for a movement that is openly declared as communist.

i'm racist but you may not kneel before me.

Funny no? We(government) demand anti-racism and for you to kneel before us but, at the same time, we will omit deserving white children from a position purely on the basis of their skin and nothing else...all while we'll talk about hunting down racists.

Stupid, idiotic, hypocritical, intimidating...all of the above.

I see the new vice-captain and Ngidi are also all about the need to transform cricket IE to deny deserving people an opportunity because of the colour of their skin. Let's be honest, that is what transformation actually means. Always rooted for Bavuma but when these players start becoming political for personal gain then I can't help but want them to fail. I hope he never gets another 100. And I do hope he wears a few in the upcoming series.

The million $ many cricket kits has Bavuma, now in a very privileged position, bought for young aspiring black cricketers? Someone on Twatter wanna ask him? Get ready to be ignored haha and likely blocked.

We've seen this movie before. It's his duty to pay lip service to ultimately racist goals but it's truly a bridge too far to ask him to sacrifice a bit of cash for a kid that loves cricket. Guy is probably sitting on well over R10m in the bank by now. What percentage of his loot do you think he has offered back to the game...I'll have a guess that the figure currently stands at R00.00. But but but...transformation I'll talk about it but somebody else(whites) must make it happen.

Truth is, parents of white cricketing kids have done more in terms of supporting young black players. From charities and donations to financially supporting talented kids out of their own pocket and maintaining smaller clubs that offer kids free games, kit and training. I've seen this happen since my schooling days up to the present day. These wanky professional players who are in a way better position(top 1% wealthiest people in the country) to help out do nothing but talk in order to appease their ANC masters.

Tossers, the lot of them. I wish them all nothing but ill...and plenty of bouncers right to the chops.

Mar 23, 2021, 20:06

"However, according to his ex-wife's family, he is an attention whore. "

Look who's talking...

Mar 23, 2021, 22:36

Nice rant Plum where in SA are you?

Mar 24, 2021, 08:38

In JHB, Saffex.

Not for much longer though. Our house hunting in Nova Scotia is in full swing. Were it not for Covid we'd have been out of SA last year.

Can't wait to leave this place that Trump aptly labelled a shithole.

PS We've just had a three week spell of loadshedding that was caused by apartheid and had nothing all all to do with stupidity and greed.

Mar 24, 2021, 18:44

I hear you good luck with the move

I have a few mates from back home who have recently moved here

Mar 27, 2021, 09:07

Back to cricket.  The final in the series  was supposed to start on Thursday - buy die to heavt rainfall in Durban only 10  overs were bowled and the Dolphins made 31 runs,

Yesterday was even worse.    There  was no cricket at all,    When I spoke to Johnny Rey yesterday afternoon he told me that there were 6 cm in in Ballito yesterday and likely the same  in Durban.    If these conditions remain there will doubtlessly no cricket  again today.

I was shocked out of my wits on Thursday.   I had no communication with my brother since 24 December 2020  - he just does not bother to phone  me and when I spoke to him  he told me that my 80 year-old sister-in-law tested  positive for Covid 19 in early January,    I then asked him whether they know how it happened  and he told me that her sister and bother-in-law from Somerset West  visited them  for the New Year weekend and stayed a few days with them.   After their return to Somerset West he got sick and was tested - and he was positive.   My  sister-in-law and my brother then went for testing  and she was positive and my brother not so.   She did not show  any sign of serious  illness and when tested three weeks later she was negative.         .

Wonder whether the open-border policy of Biden apply to SA  refuges as well?   There are at least 4 million Whites  and  3 million  Coloreds and Indians that could benefit to get out of the hell-hole that SA  became.

Doubt whether the Biden Administration would bite at that because very few would vote  for the Democrats in elections  since they have already been bitten hard by the Socialist ANC - who would love to get rid of them anyway.

If  I was in my 30's in the 1990's I would have been  out of SA already for 25 years.   So good luck to you.
