The series started today and the first three matches are being played.    So who were the worst batsmen thus far today"

*      Pieter Malan - Dean Elgar -  Thinus de Bruin -  Aidan Markram

The best bowler by some distance was  Miguel Pretorius - who were credited with the wickets of both Elgar for 12 runs and Markram for 29 runs and Sipamla.   Our Protea captain is really making a mockery of  the idiots who appointed him as captain.

The nest Batsmen thus far were Neil Brand and Marques Ackerman.

Mar 07, 2021, 16:46

29 is hardly a massive failure dumbass

Mar 07, 2021, 16:50

Markram got 33 you twit

Mar 07, 2021, 19:16

Not good enough  on a level where the average Protea players are supposed to score above 40  runs.

Mar 07, 2021, 19:24

A bat does not make runs every time he walks out to bat you fucking idiot

33 is not a fail

Mar 08, 2021, 03:23

What do you know about Brand - he mad a century and seems a decent opening batsman?   Made about a hundred runs more than our Protea captain - who was supposedly his opening partner,

Hamza is not playing for the Cobras and neither is De Kock,

And Kyle Verreinne made  42 Runs not out for the Cobras , while Bird failed and made only 2 rums.   Rynard van Tonder bats at 3 for the Knights nd has not batted yet.

And Ethan Bosch made 104 runs for the Dolphins - excellent for a bowler - and Marques Ackerman made 48 runs.

Something went wrong with Rabada - he bowled only four overs  - took 1 wicket  bit net for 31 runs.   Mayne injured?

Mar 08, 2021, 14:57

No don’t know Brand at all

Great to see Bosch making a hundred which means he is potentially a great all rounder prospect

I really liked what I saw of his bowling - nice natural action

Mar 08, 2021, 16:02

So Mike...

Markram scored 30 odd

Should we drop him as well?

Who should wee replace him with?

Mar 08, 2021, 18:42

Verreynne on double hundred

Good to see Rickelton on 143

Mar 08, 2021, 19:26

Hey Saf

Both need to be in the mix.
Verreyne as a specialist number 6 batsman. He is ripe!
And he's also a fantastic fielder to boot!
I've fancied Rickleton for a while too. But i'd give him another season to find some consistency.

Mar 08, 2021, 20:52

So  lets  provide  summary of the batting  performances today:of players already called up to the Protea Squad:-

1     Kyle Verreinne              -     216 not out

2     Ryan Rickelton              -     194

3      Linde                             -      106

4      Raynard van Tonder      -        52

5       Reeza Hendriks             -        48

6     Aidan Markram              -        33

7     Sarel Erwee                    -        26

8     Jon-Jon Smuts               -         20

9      Dean Elgar                   -         12

10     Rassue                          -          3

11    Pieter Malan                -           0

12    Pite van Biljon             -           0

Looking at the above  I realize  that the SAC set-up is undermining  cricket by -

*     appointing a captain  with questionable performance records who should have been pensioned of already; and

*    selection of  Elgar, Van der Dussen. Malan and Van Biljon

to play for SA.

I would rather have  Verreynne, Rickelton and Van Tonder in the team than  players numbered  from 7 to 12.

Mar 08, 2021, 21:14

Flash the way forward is

Janneman Malan

v Tonder

Markram (c)

de Kock

Mar 09, 2021, 00:46

Nice team for the future.

We can't leave out our new captains though.

Make room for Elgar and Bavuma!

I see you also left Sipamla out?

Mar 09, 2021, 01:49

I like Sipamla but not ahead of KG, Nortje or Ngidi

He would be my next in line

Mar 09, 2021, 04:32

Bavuma is apparently injured again - he did not play for the Highveld Lions in the game today.   He has been round for years - but basically played in only 8 ODI's over the period.    He is an injury machine other than an extremely  low average in domestic 50 over competitions of just about 31;

Elgar against decent bowling is like a hare in the car-headlights.    Only against second level bowlers does he score runs,    On provincial level  his performances is a farce,    The  present games is a continuation of the games stopped last year because of the  Virus,    During the game they gave the average of the players in the competition.   Van Tonder has a batting average of 78,1 in the series - Edgar was not in the list of top 12 batsmen,     Aside from that - he is a lousy fielder as well.    Balls he should stop pass him regularly and he rather too often miss catches.   I think the latter is due to slow reaction on his part.

The aura of Smith and Boucher having a positive impact  on the national  game is gone - they have spoiled their reputations by being part of a set-up with extremely poor selections and the appointment of Elgar and  Bavuma ,is just a continuation of total  balls ups. that we have seen over the past year/     They are not going to take the Proteas out of the mess they are in at present.

Mar 09, 2021, 13:38

Have a look at the following figures and tell me how they can justify the continued selection of  Van der Dussen and Elgar in the test team:-

Kyle Verreynne

First Class batting average  -    51,91

Strike rate                              -    61,49

Raynard van Tonder

First class batting average    -   49,86

Strike rate                               -    47,40

Rassie van der Dussen

First Class batting average  -    43,52

Strike rate                              -    47.83

Faf du Plessis

First Class batting average  -    39,27

Strike rate                              -    Not available

Dean Elgar

First Class batting average  -    42,26  *

Strike rate                              -    49,97

Ryan Rickelton

First Class batting average  -    42,45   *

Strike rate                              -    53,77

*     The result of the 194 runs  scored by Rickelton  in the present game is likely to take his average to circa 46 – while the average of Elgar is likely to drop slightly to about 42,10

Mar 09, 2021, 16:01

Rassie’s FC average is 43 not 46

Unfortunately we are stuck with Rassie, Elgar and Bavuma for a few years thanks to a bunch of incompetent pricks who call themselves selectors

What the fuck does Mpitsang know?

Mar 09, 2021, 20:07

Sorry - figure corrected.    Don't tell me  Smith and Boucher have no say in the team selection.    If not - why don't they tell the selectors they are making their lives  impossible - since they get the blame for shit selections of teams destined to lose.   I think they are ass guilty as the selectors themselves are.

Mar 09, 2021, 21:54

Boucher and Smith have done nothing to improve SA cricket

Both massive disappointments

Mar 09, 2021, 23:16

By the way - the score of 216* will push up Verreynne's average to 55.47 and the 194 runs of Rickelton  increase his average to 46.86.

The Verreynne average is near to 16 points higher than Faf's and about  and 12 points higher than Van der Dussen's.

Mar 10, 2021, 08:28

So Markram is on 90*

Mar 10, 2021, 09:48

Markram did extremely well in the second innings and  his average for the match is already 61,4 runs in the game.   As to  Elgar huis average in the game is still 34, despite a much better performance in the game.    Rickelton's average thus far is 104,5 in he match

Mar 10, 2021, 10:21

Who would you make protea captain?

I think Verreyne and Rickleton need to be given a go now. They are the right age and in decent form.

Elgar needs to stay in the side. No ways we can do without his experience and dogged personality with all the youn inexperienced guys around him.

Scary thought.... Bavuma is now our most experienced batsman!

Mar 10, 2021, 15:15

Weird thing here - the match between the Titans and the Knights were drawn - but they allowed  the game to continue to -

*   give  Markram to get to his 200 runs; and

*    give Klaasen some batting time.

I do not think that run difference will be based on the extended playing time after a draw was decided upon.

Markram officially  made  184 runs  and during the extended time exceeded the 200 mark - but Klaasen only managed 11 runs at a slow run rate,

Mar 10, 2021, 19:10

Run rate is of no consequence in the long format of the game

Great to see Markram get his double hundred

Mar 10, 2021, 19:37

"Run rate is of no consequence in the long format of the game"

Indeed, but it's still an indication of sort over time...and anything below 40% in the long run is problematic...control the rr and you control the game.

Mar 11, 2021, 00:18

Any idea why klaasen didn’t bat in the 1st innings?

What extended time are you referring to?

Mar 11, 2021, 03:51

He was injured and not selected for the match.    I think the Knights were very nice to continue playing to help Markram and Klaasen  to teach a milestone in the case of Markram and assisting with recovery from injury in the case of Klaasen after it was decided to call the match a draw.

Rumour has it that De Kock will return to play for the  Titans in their remaining two matches,

Mar 11, 2021, 11:20

I need to explain to you...

Time wasn't extended.

The correct wording is "they did not call play off early"

Play can only be called off early by mutual consent from BOTH captains.

So I somehow don't think that the Knights were doing the Titans any favours for Markram.

... just thought I'd clarify for you.

So Markram's double was by no means a favour of The Knights.

Mar 11, 2021, 12:00

According to how it happened is clear.    Play was called off when Markram was  on 184 and after that it was agreed o allow extension of the playiog time only for Markram to hit 200 runs and Klaasen to bat for a while.

It ever happened before in any cricket game I know of  - why was for instance Klaasen allowed to bat in the extended game time when he was not on the team sheet for the match?    If the Knights agreed to play on they did the Titans a favor.   There is no other explanation than that one.

Mar 11, 2021, 12:17

I doubt that happened

Mar 11, 2021, 12:53

No. Wait Saffex.

Maybe you have uncovered a conspiracy or an underhanded bookmakers deal here.

No mention of it in the papers.

No mention of it on cricinfo.

I also don’t recall the commentators even mentioning it while I was watching.

Was their any mention of it at bridge club?

We should possibly report this on corruption watch.

Mar 11, 2021, 13:31

Mike, according to this article, the match was only called a draw at teatime, after he got the 204*

Mar 11, 2021, 13:41

No no Db...

Mike has latched on to some suspicious activity!

The game stopped but restarted for Markram to get his double.

Markram should be dropped!

And Elgar!

Mar 11, 2021, 16:05

KLaasen - who was NOT in the team came onto the field to bat when Markram was on 184, while he was not in the team for the relevant match.   That shows that the match was already ended when Markram was on 184 and when Klaasen came on.    Play continued - but the match did not.

Lets put it mildly  my first reference was will the points earned by Klaasen and consequently also those of Markram be taken  into account when the match stats is comprised,   It had nothing to do with Markram personal tally - that will remain on the record books.

Mar 11, 2021, 17:37

What points did Klaasen get Mike?

de Bruyn was withdrawn from the match as he had COVID. CSA have allowed this exception to happen.... player replacements for COVID related issues.

Did you lodge the possible match fixing with CSA yet?

Mar 11, 2021, 18:13

Chips, cut the Oom some slack...getting old is tough enough...:D

Mar 11, 2021, 19:23

Mike I’m not sure where you got your weird idea from that sides would continue to play so a bat can get 200 - fuck that as the opposition that is not a record you want against your team - someone scoring a double against your bowling attack

Mar 12, 2021, 03:09

When sides are allowed  to bring in players from outside the team as announced and used in the first innings would have meant that playing in the series has ended when  the new arrival arrived to bet as the new players entry could have an impact on the score differences  if the teams on the log,    In this case there was an obvious  agreement with the Knights to allow it to happen and I was just guessing  what the obvious reasons were for the extra-ordinary arrangement,

Mar 12, 2021, 08:52

Both captains have to agree to end the game early and call it a draw when it's clear that neither side can win.

The bowling side would want to get off the field ASAP and not tire their bowlers further. Meaning, the final says rests with the batting captain.

I didn't watch most of the game but I'm guessing the batting captain could have agreed to the draw once Markram got to 200.

Mar 12, 2021, 19:35

Kak Mike you are speaking shit

Klaasen was brought in as a sub for de Bruyn during the match due to COVID

Mar 12, 2021, 20:18

Read the link I gave you.

Christ man.

Mar 13, 2021, 03:03

Subs in matches are NOT allowed to bat,

Mar 13, 2021, 16:45

They are - that is how Labascagne started his test career
